EXCLUSIVE: Jared Padalecki is returning to series television. The former Supernatural star, coming off a four-season run as the lead of Walker, has been tapped for a three-episode arc on the upcoming third season of CBS‘ hit drama series Fire Country, headlined and executive produced by Max Thieriot.
He will play Camden, a SoCal firefighter and maverick with a surfer swagger who is a force to be reckoned with and immediately recognizes Bode’s (Thieriot) raw talent.
The deal with Fire Country producer CBS Studios is strictly for the recurring role, sources said. Given Padalecki’s status as a popular leading man with two hit series under his belt, I hear there is a possibility for the guest stint to lead to a new spinoff headlined by him that would join the upcoming Sheriff Country.
Sources stress that the idea is still in its nascent stages. And similarly to the NCIS franchise, which originated on CBS and has generated four domestic offshoots on the network but has also expanded into streaming with the latest spinoff, NCIS: Tony & Ziva (as well as the streaming/broadcast NCIS: Sydney), a new Fire Country spinoff could be for broadcast or streaming. Reps for CBS and CBS Studios declined comment.

The buzz on Fire Country Season 3 is officially heating up with the news that True Detective and Grey’s Anatomy alum Leven Rambin has joined the mix.
TVLine has learned exclusively that Rambin has been cast on the CBS drama in the recurring guest star role of Audrey, a former fire camp inmate.
Audrey presents with the grit and tenacity that her tattoos and prison record imply, we hear, but upon first smile she reveals the soulful spirit of a gifted musician and empath.
Fire Country showrunner Tia Napolitano told TVLine that a theme for Season 3 is “wish fulfillment,” in part because “we finally get to see Bode out [of Three Rock], after wanting it since the pilot…. Our goal is to have a lot of fun with him next season and … bring some levity and joy to Bode.”
EXCLUSIVE: Promised Land creator Matt Lopez has joined CBS‘ recently picked up drama series Sheriff Country as executive producer and showrunner. The Fire Country spinoff, headlined by Morena Baccarin, is slated to debut during the 2025-26 season, with a writers room expected to open in late summer.
Sheriff Country was introduced when Baccarin guest starred in an April episode of the mothership series. Like the Fire Country pilot, the planted spinoff was written by Joan Rater and Tony Phelan from a story the duo co-wrote with series’ star Max Thieriot, whose real-life experiences inspired Fire Country. (Thieriot also directed the backdoor pilot episode.)
The offshoot also is following Fire Country‘s leadership pattern. While Grey’s Anatomy alums Rater and Phelan are executive producers and a writers room fixtures on the mothership series, Tia Napolitano was brought in as day-to-day showrunner. Lopez is taking on the duties for Sheriff Country. He was already in negotiations when CBS in May announced a series pickup for the spinoff.
Sheriff Country stars Baccarin as straight-shooting sheriff Mickey Fox, the stepsister of Cal Fire’s division chief Sharon Leone (Diane Farr of Fire Country), who investigates criminal activity as she patrols the streets of small-town Edgewater.

CBS has ordered its first new series for the 2025-26 broadcast season. The network has given a green light to Fire Country spinoff Sheriff Country, headlined by Morena Baccarin. The series order was announced Thursday during CBS’ presentation in Los Angeles.
In Sheriff Country, Baccarin stars as straight-shooting sheriff Mickey Fox, the stepsister of Cal Fire’s division chief Sharon Leone (Diane Farr of Fire Country), who investigates criminal activity as she patrols the streets of small-town Edgewater while contending with her ex-con father and a mysterious incident involving her wayward daughter.
The (then) potential spinoff was introduced when Baccarin guest starred in an April episode of the mothership series. Like the series’ pilot, the episode was written by Joan Rater and Tony Phelan from a story the Grey’s Anatomy alums co-wrote with series’ star Max Thieriot, whose real-life experiences inspired Fire Country. Thieriot also directed the planted spinoff episode.
In the April episode “Alert the Sheriff,” Mickey (Baccarin) enters the scene in Edgewater via helicopter; she’s in pursuit of a money launderer who ends up dumping $50,000 in cash over the convicts while they while they’re working in the woods. Viewers quickly learn that Mickey is not only the step-sister of Sharon (Diane Farr), she also played an unfortunate role in putting Sharon’s son Bode (Max Thieriot) behind bars before he joined the Cal Fire firefighting program.
The Sheriff Country initial episode is written by Tony Phelan and Joan Rater with story by Phelan, Rater and Max Thieriot. Executive producers are Thieriot, Phelan, Rater, and Jerry Bruckheimer and KristieAnne Reed for JBTV. The series is produced by CBS Studios.
CBS has renewed the hit Friday night drama Fire Country for a third season.
From creators and executive producers Tony Phelan, Joan Rater and Max Thieriot, the series follows Bode Donovan (Thieriot), a young convict seeking redemption and a shortened prison sentence by joining a prison release firefighting program in Northern California. The program partners inmates with elite firefighters to extinguish unpredictable wildfires across the region.
When Bode is assigned to the program in his rural hometown—where he was once a golden all-American son—until his troubles begin as he burns down everything in his life, now, he’s looking for the opportunity to change his destiny.
Billy Burke, Kevin Alejandro, Diane Farr, Stephanie Arcila, Jordan Calloway and Jules Latimer also star.
Fire Country is averaging 9.21 million viewers in live 7-day multiplatform viewing, up +7% from last year, the network shares while touting the series as a top 6 in streaming on Paramount+. Currently airing on Friday nights, Fire Country is averaging 7.76 million viewers this season in linear viewing (Nielsen, Live+7).
The show has been such a hit for the network the universe could be expanding. As Deadline reported exclusively in January, Morena Baccarin will appear in a Season 2 episode of Fire County with an option to become a series regular in a potential spinoff series. She will portray Mickey, a Sheriff’s Deputy for fifteen years who knows every corner of Edgewater … and every one of its inhabitants. This is her town and she’s fiercely protective of it.
The sheriff-centered episode is not considered a backdoor pilot, Deadline understands, as the project is expected to go through another development stage before a potential series order but its reception would likely be key for the offshoot’s chances of moving forward.
Bode is back in prison where he receives some shocking news. Meanwhile, the station 42 crew responds to a massive earthquake that rocks Edgewater to its core, on the second season premiere of FIRE COUNTRY, Friday, Feb. 16 (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network, and streaming on Paramount+ (live and on demand for Paramount+ with SHOWTIME subscribers, or on demand for Paramount+ Essential subscribers the day after the episode airs)*

EXCLUSIVE: Morena Baccarin (Deadpool franchise) is set to appear in an upcoming episode of CBS‘ Fire Country, playing a sheriff character that could lead her own series. Baccarin will guest star in the Season 2 episode with an option to become a series regular in a potential spinoff series, Deadline has learned. Like the mothership series, the proposed offshoot would be produced by CBS Studios.
In the planted spinoff episode, which will air later in the season, Baccarin will play Mickey, a Sheriff’s Deputy for fifteen years who knows every corner of Edgewater … and every one of its inhabitants. This is her town and she’s fiercely protective of it.
Baccarin emerged as a top choice for the role from the start and has been in negotiations for it since before the holidays.
The sheriff-centered episode is not considered a backdoor pilot as I hear the project is expected to go through another development stage before a potential series order but its reception would likely be key for the offshoot’s chances of moving forward. A rep for CBS declined comment.
EXCLUSIVE: Tye White (American Auto) and Jason O’Mara (The Man in the High Castle) are set for key recurring roles on the upcoming second season of CBS drama series Fire Country.
White will play Cole, an MMA fighter meets family man, now a prison inmate and Bode’s cellmate. Cole has made some mistakes of his own in the past and has learned from them, becoming a better man.
O’Mara will portray Liam, a hunky firefighter with a relaxed confidence. Liam is a former colleague of Sharon’s (Diane Farr) who runs into Sharon and Vince (Billy Burke) and is very glad to see her.

A new arrival on Fire Country just might give voluntarily imprisoned Bode (played by Max Thieriot) yet another thing to worry about.
TVLine has learned exclusively that Dynasty reboot alum Rafael de la Fuente has joined Season 2 of the CBS hit in the role of Diego, a charming and motivated paramedic/firefighter and combat vet who served in Afghanistan.
Notably, Diego will be training Gabriela (played by Stephanie Arcila) for her paramedic certification, pushing Bode’s estranged girlfriend to go beyond her limits. Diego and Gaby will enjoy an “easy camaraderie,” I am told — but could that blossom into something more?

CBS Sets 2024 Premiere Dates For Delayed Scripted Series – Deadline
Fire Country is guaranteed to be spreading, in the form of NCIS-like spinoffs.
Season 1 of the Max Thieriot-led firefighter drama averaged 8.4 million total viewers and a 0.8 demo rating (with Live+7 playback), ranking fifth in audience among the 14 dramas CBS aired this TV season, while tying FBI for No. 1 in the demo.
Fire Country also easily reigned as the TV season’s most-watched and highest-rated freshman series.
“We are focused on mass-appeal franchises,” CBS president and CEO George Cheeks told our sister site Deadline at the Banff World Media Festival on Tuesday. “This season’s No. 1 show was Fire Country, which completely lends itself to building out a whole new universe.”
“It became very clear that not only was the show special, it really felt like this could be a great example of us building together a franchise from scratch,” Cheeks said. “And so I’m like, ‘You guys, congratulations, you got your back nine [full-season order]. Now let’s start talking about ideas for new extensions.’ They’ve already come up with some great ones.”
“We’re not necessarily looking at next year. We’re looking when they’re ready,” Cheeks said. “That’s the beauty of the gestation process. We know that we’re doubling down on this one, so let’s get it right. And whether that that means three years down the road or whether that means a Paramount+ original or a CBS original, we’ll see where it lands.”

The yet-to-be-cast actor would appear on Fire Country as a guest star, with an option for a series regular role in a potential spinoff, if Sheriff’s Country (the title we’ve heard bandied about) is ordered to series.
