Joan Rater is an American writer and producer. She's a co-creator, executive producer, and writer on the CBS original drama, Fire Country.

Biography[]

Rater is best known for her work on ABC's Grey's Anatomy, which has been nominated for two Emmys for "Outstanding Drama Series." The series was also nominated for three WGA awards, one in 2006 for "New Series," which they won, and the other two for "Dramatic Series." She and her husband, Tony Phelan, joined the show during its second season, eventually becoming executive producers alongside Grey's Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes. Her other work includes producing and writing for Law & Order: Trial by Jury, Threat Matrix, Haunting Sarah, Fling, and Council of Dads.
