Vincent "Vince" Leone is a third-generation Cal Fire and the Battalion Chief of Edgewater and Battalion 1508. A strong man who has fought many fires in his time, Vince's greatest battle is that with his son Bode, who he blames for the death of his daughter.

Biography[]

Early life[]

He has spent much of his life in Edgewater, where he got married to Sharon and raised two kids, a son and a daughter, all while protecting the town from fire.

Bode's return[]

Vince meets with the executive board to discuss his station getting a new bulldozer after extinguishing a fire on Bodega Highway. His wife Sharon is one of several board members and reminds him that he and Glen Ellen share a dozer, but it is 45 minutes away, he retorts. Vince remembers the Hanley fire, which wiped out 56,000 acres, destroyed 84 homes, and claimed 19 lives, including two firefighters. That area has not burned since then, but Vince is certain it will happen again. Later that evening, Sharon returns home and informs Vince that the board voted against the dozer, reminding him that they have 473 Cal Fire stations to manage, and she recommends he look for a used dozer. Vince then reveals he stopped by the cemetery to talk to Riley for a bit. He also heard Eve and Jake talking about needing to move on after her death, which Vince believes they should, but there's no moving in for him and Sharon.

Sharon and Vince at Buckeye

The following day, they are called in for a vehicular accident on Buckeye Road, which downed a power line and sparked a fire. Jake breaks the back window to the car and saves the woman and child inside just before it explodes. Worried about Harrison Ridge, Vince tells Eve and Jake to get eyes on the fire before convening with Sharon, who believes that they should begin evacuation and make their stand at Old Creek Road to prevent the fire from reaching town. When he arrives at Oak Creek, he discovers Gabriela and several townsfolk cutting line and moving debris, adamant on helping any way they can. By night's end, the flames were subsiding. Upon his arrival at the hospital to check on Eve and Jake, Vince learns that Bode is back in town.[1]

Vince and Sharon discuss what comes next regarding Bode. When Vince points out his rogue behavior and inability to follow simple commands, Bode replies that he followed one of his father's orders pretty well. Manny then interrupts to inform them that Bode's fate is ultimately in his hands, though Vince does warn him that Bode is a liability. Sharon then questions Vince about the order of his that Bode followed, but he keeps this from her. So she leaves irritated. After instructing Eve and Jake to give Manny an honest incident report, Vince follows Sharon to Smokey's Tavern, where she reveals Bode legally changed his last name to hide from them. Before they can further discuss their son's return, they receive a call of vegetation fire caused by incoming dry lightning storms.

Vince tells Sharon the truth

15 minutes from the rec center with Eve and Jake, Vince gets a call from Sharon, who encourages him to hurry to the fire and help Manny's crew. However, Manny's crew is seemingly headed towards them until lightning strike the road, catapulting a slab of asphalt through the bus' windshield. The three of them exit the vehicle and discover that the bus is actually filled with kids from the rec center. After calling in the incident and helping the civilians off, Vince goes ahead to the rec center and extinguishes the flames. If they'd shown up any later, they would've lost the center, Vince admits, though Manny couldn't have done it without Bode. Vince claims that today Manny got "Good Bode," who will only lure him in and break his heart. Later that night, Vince reveals that the order he gave Bode was to leave and never come back after Riley died. Vince claims their marriage would not have survived if he stayed. Because of him, they lost two kids in one night. And now Bode's back, and Sharon refuses to let him be taken away again. Before leaving, Sharon tells Vince that she loves him and will be home tonight, but it will take some time for her to forgive him.[2]
